One of our pet frustrations here at AJAX Books is the persistent conversation around porn and the way it demeans women. While we completely agree that some porn CAN demean women, we do not feel that it necessarily follows that all porn is demeaning to women.
We found a neat little article in Psychology Today that finds pornography can be helpful and beneficial to women. You can read it here.
We are not at all surprised.
Women have been enjoying erotica and pornographic books for decades.
The article equally presumed women don’t watch ‘normal’ lesbian porn made ‘by men for men.’ We felt this was naive. It made assumptions about women rather than finding out what women were doing and examining the facts.
Just because fake lesbian porn isn’t real, doesn’t mean women don’t enjoy it. In fact, it is possible the greater the distance between porn and reality, the better the orgasm.
Psychology today should investigate that.
