There is a lot of buzz on the internet these days about porn addiction. We here at AJAX Books feel that something like porn is too broad a category to reduce to syndromes and complexes. Porn covers everything from erotica through to sex toys and seeing a prostitute. To suggest it is a single entity that can be addictive is like saying you have a ‘food’ addiction. It’s probably a specific type of food you need to limit, rather than cut out all food.
Sometimes, the word addiction can be used to describe a bad habit that is difficult to break.
We read a wonderful article recently in Psychology Today entitled Religious People Report more Porn Addiction. It’s written by David Ludden Ph.D. We felt the article explains carefully and clearly how addiction is identified and what makes something addictive.
We also felt the connection between belief about what one is doing and what they should be doing is central to one’s self-judgment very interesting.
